Dinner With Friends at the River Café 2023

Soirée Committiéer

22 December 2023

It’s always such a joy to gather and spend time with the people who have meant so much to us. It allows us the chance to show our appreciation for all their support and inspiration, and really solidifies the best of the holidays. See below for more details on this special night.

Our Nearest And Dearest

Metiér founder Melissa explains "The River Cafe is not only my favourite restaurant in London, but my favourite in the entire world.  It simply embodies everything I believe in - the highest quality, impeccable customer service, and a relaxed environment that allows me to feel my best.  In many ways, it's what we strive to do at Métier.  I started this dinner as a yearly tradition to thank the people who have supported me and made me year worth celebrating.  It seemed fitting to celebrate with those who mean so much to me at a place that endlessly inspires me."

Says Melissa regarding the beginnings of a dinner party: “I always think it’s so nice to have a long cocktail hour so people can have a chance to catch-up before they are sat.”

And then, once seated, “I always spend so long on the placement itself, I try to have each person next to someone they already know and then next to someone I think they would love to know.”

A favourite of Melissa’s; the dinner menu featured a delicious seasonal taglierini verdi followed by a lovely branzino and an almond tart pudding to finish. Specially selected by the house sommelier, the wine selection featured a crisp, fresh white and a full bodied Cabernet, plus a Merlot and Alicante, both smoky and rich.

Flowers

The flower arrangement was created to be festive yet organic and minimal, adding a warm touch without overpowering the room.

The Métiers

Also in attendance were our little Métier guys. Each one represents one of our core bags, they are lovingly brought to life by illustrator, Jochen Gerner. They love to be out and about and are always on the go.

The River Café

Establishing itself as a special place since its opening, The River Café was started by Ruth Rogers and Rose Gray in 1987. Located in Hammersmith on the banks of the Thames, it’s known for being one of the most beautiful dining rooms in London with a private dining area, Sylvia’s Room, situated across the garden. Serving seasonal Italian fare, with an exclusive Italian wine list, it was awarded a Michelin star in 1998.

Ruth Rogers

Along for being known for helming the beloved restaurant, Lady Ruth Rogers also conducts a charming podcast; Ruthie’s Table 4, where guests reminisce about, appropriately enough, food memories.

Notable episodes feature Wes Anderson, Ed Ruscha, and John McEnroe.
