Introducing New York Stories: An Evening with Joan Juliet Buck

Soirée Committiéer

21 October 2025

Last night, Métier hosted the writer Joan Juliet Buck for an intimate reading at our New York Residency in Soho. The evening kicked off an in-store event series, “New York Stories,” which celebrates the city’s spirit and character through the voices of its creative writers.

The writer and former Vogue France Editor-in-Chief Joan Juliet Buck kicked off our New York Stories series with a lively reading from her essay “New York,” published in Vogue’s October 1983 issue. The article paints a colorful picture of the city’s glamorous energy and excesses during the early 80s boom.

New York Stories was conceived by Métier Creative Director Melissa Morris with the writer Zoe Ruffner, whose work has appeared inVogue, T: The New York Times Style Magazine, Air Mail and more. Hosted at our New York Residency in Soho, the series will highlight community readings on a quarterly basis.

Guests of the reading were encouraged to bring a copy of their favorite New York story — poems, short stories, novels — to exchange with other guests.
